We were recognized by the Department of Defense Operational Committee, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Mike Reyburn (Operations Director) received a Patriot Award and our company received the Above and Beyond Award. The award was presented by our very own Bob Macero (a US Navy Reservist and Fleet Manager) for our support of his military service, training hours and deployments away from the company.
Jo Borden opened the event with a heartfelt story about her own experience as a military wife seeking employment. Interstate saw her potential and scooped her up, knowing we may only get her for a few years if her husband should get transferred out of the area. Thankfully, 29 years later, she is still here as a Senior Vice President.
We turned the event over to the ESGR and Bob Macero for the presentation. It was evident from Bob’s speech that he takes great pride in serving our country and his work at Interstate. He spoke of other Reservist that have difficulty seeking employment due to the absence their military commitments require. We feel very blessed to have associates like Mike Reyburn. Associates who do not give a second thought about doing everything they can to help their fellow man. A great man: Bob Macero. Mike and his team took (and continue to take) the necessary steps to secure coverage during Bob’s absence. Bob mentioned how grateful he was for the accommodations and the welcome he always receives when returning to work.
Congressman Derek Kilmer was in attendance and spoke a few words about his commitment to insure a seamless transition for our service members when they return to work. He also commended Interstate for our support of military service members.
We also wanted to honor current and past service members in our Interstate family with a commemorative wall located in our Tacoma Orientation room. There are approximately 215 members recognized on the wall accounting for about 11% of our driving and non-driving associates. If you are in Tacoma or visiting, please stop by the orientation room to see the wall.
Marc Rogers closed the event saying, “It is with gratitude we accept the kind recognition today, but
know that the true recognition goes to the fine men and women of the armed services in serving every day here and abroad to protect our liberties. We thank our military for being prepared, and we here at Interstate will continue to support those that answer the call to serve.”
“You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give.” Winston Churchill
“We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free.” Ronald Reagan
Thank you, Bob Macero, for answering the call to serve.Posted by admin on March 27, 2013 | Categories: News.
