COO Paul Simmons in CCJ Article

<< Back to All

For an article in Commercial Carrier Journal, our COO Paul Simmons was asked about something that usually means they will stay for a while. Here is our mention, and you can read the entire article below. They also included a nice picture of one of our trucks.

Interstate Distributor Co. (CCJ Top 250, No. 79), a dry van and refrigerated truckload carrier based in Tacoma, Wash., has noticed that drivers who are referred stick around longer, said Paul Simmons, chief operating officer.

When one of our drivers will vouch for a potential new driver, it adds another level of trust in the hiring process. It’s the main reason we continue to offer our driver referral bonus. Not to mention, it’s a great way for our drivers to make extra money. We have had drivers make upwards of $10,000 in a year on top of their driving pay just by referring other drivers to drive for Interstate.

Retention is a very important issue for us. This year, Interstate introduced a number of programs aimed at improving driver retention. Among them was the launch of our Driver Care Center, where drivers can call and talk to someone if they have an issue that they’re having trouble getting resolved on their own. We also launched the President’s Club for our tenured drivers as a recognition program.

Safety awards were held in the late summer, too, for drivers who have reached milestones of safe miles. This year we gave awards to drivers who reached 1 million, 2 million and 3 million safe miles with Interstate.

We’re proud of our drivers. We’re happy we were asked for input for this article, and we will continue to build our reputation as we pursue our goal to become “The Best Trucking Company in America.”
